Supported Independent Living, commonly known as SIL, is about much more than having support workers on a roster. It is about feeling safe, respected and comfortable in your own home, while receiving the assistance you need to live as independently as possible.
At D&M Total Support Network, we take time to understand each participant’s routines, preferences, goals and support needs. We work with participants, families and other important people—with the participant’s consent—to develop supports that fit their everyday life.
Wherever possible, we provide a consistent core team and consider personality, experience, communication style and compatibility when matching support workers.
Personal care, including showering, dressing and grooming
Assistance with cooking, meals and household routines
Medication assistance or management
Support to attend appointments
Building skills and confidence for greater independence
Implementing behaviour support strategies where required
Support with personal safety, routines and social skills
Support or supervision available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, according to the participant's approved SIL supports
We begin by meeting with the participant and, where appropriate, their family, representatives and support coordinator. We learn about the participant's usual week, personal routines, communication needs, goals, risks and preferred way of receiving support. We then work with the participant to develop an agreed schedule of supports and service agreement that clearly explains how their SIL supports will be delivered.
We work with each participant on goals that are meaningful to them. This could include preparing a favourite meal, completing household tasks, using public transport, managing money or becoming more involved in decisions about their daily life. Progress is reviewed with the participant and recorded in a respectful and understandable way.
Participants should have choice and control over where they live, who they live with and how support is delivered in their home. Housing or tenancy arrangements are kept separate from the SIL support agreement. Participants are supported to understand their rights, raise concerns and request changes to their supports.
With the participant's consent, we maintain clear communication with families, nominees, support coordinators and other relevant professionals. We provide accurate support records and hold regular reviews so that changes in the participant's needs, preferences or circumstances can be addressed promptly.

Not at all. We can meet with you and your support coordinator to help you understand whether SIL is the right fit and what evidence you may need for a plan review.
Yes. Participants have choice and control over where they live and who they live with, and we consider compatibility carefully in any shared arrangement.
No. SIL funds the disability-related support delivered by support workers. Rent, groceries, utilities and other everyday living expenses are paid separately, and tenancy arrangements are kept separate from the SIL support agreement.
Your schedule of supports is a living document. We review it with you regularly and can adjust support as your goals, health and preferences change.
